Text messages help smokers to quit!

Topic: Esendex news

According to a recent study , frequent supportive text messages can double the chance of someone successfully quitting smoking.
10% of the 2,900 smokers who received motivational text messages such as “you can do it” had quit after six months, but only 4.9% of a similar number who did not have the same support gave up.
“Text messaging may be an ideal delivery mechanism for tailored interventions because it is low-cost, most people already possess the existing hardware and the messages can be delivered near-instantaneously into real world situations,” the researchers reported.
This research highlights another important use of text messaging.  SMS has the power to offer constant and critical support and change unwanted behaviour.  As an instant and personal tool, SMS can support professional help and play a huge part in health care.
